Glove box and boot light

Featured Replies

Morning All

I discovered recently that neither of the boot lights are working. The the other day I noticed the glove box isn't either.

I've checked the bulbs in the boot, they're fine. I've check for a supply, there isn't any.

Are there cetain situations when these lights are activated, or should they come on when ever the boot/glove box are opened regardless of ignition etc?

I'm suspecting it might be a fuse, but haven't checked which it will be yet.

I think the glovebox light will only power up when the glovebox is open, and the side/headlights are on.

The boot lights in my estate will come on when ever the boot is open. I have a feeling the boot lights are -ve switched, and you should find a perm +12v feed to them (if not, then it might be a fiuse issue). Lack of switched -ve would be an issue with the microswitch(es) in the tailgate lock.

OK, I'll check the glove box with side lights on and see if that helps.

I'll dig out the meter and check positive to an alternate ground and see if that exists for the boot lights. Any idea where the micro-switch is for the boot lights?

I have just bought my Octavia and I noticed the boot and glove box lights not working when they should do. So if they do have the same 12v feed and this is the problem what would be the possible solution?

Make your checks on the wiring on the nearside first as the offside light is looped from that.

Mine didn't work either when I got the car as the previous owner has disconnected the wiring. He wanted to leave the tailgate open for long periods when at dog shows etc.

Boot light should shut itself off after about 15-20 minutes anyway.

That is true - sure mine does that. Shame the internal lights above the rear doors don't do the same thing.

Mine do, but that's because they are linked to the front light
