Anyone heard of BP clutches?

Featured Replies

My car has now done 99k, and the clutch is slipping under heavy load.

I've been looking around for replacements, I've found what appears to be a dirt cheap clutch kit on eBay this morning.

I've contacted the seller, and apparently it's made by B.P.

Now I've never even heard of them, but is it worth a punt at the price?

Built with sticky back plastic then?

I'd have a look at euro car parts, they are currently giving 15% off clutches. I'd rather pay the bit extra and get a known brand......remember you get what you pay for!

Yours is mapped, Sam, no? Honestly, I wouldn't even look at it. Even the "claimed" uprated ones off eBay are usually naff (Si VXR never did come back to review his Techniclutch properly so I can only assume that it did in fact turn out to be ****), and I can't see anything for that price being competitive on a mapped car, especially once you factor in £200+ fitting costs. Even the fact that a quick Google search for "BP Clutch" only brings up this thread and a load of news items about BP the oil company would put me off, at least with manufacturers like Quinton Hazell and Techniclutch they have some kind of web presence, BP Clutches just seem to not exist...maybe you can get away with a standard spec one with your map but I'd still rather at least have a standard spec from a known supplier such as ECP who don't tend to use untracable manufacturers.

AP Clutches?

Wouldn't think you could buy anything from the AP Racing for £55, and if it's not the AP Racing then it's probably not worth bothering with IMO.

Yeah the car is mapped. What it's putting out, I've no idea as every time I've had it on a dyno, it's either had a boost leak or the clutch has slipped. It's a Shark map so will be nice and smooth anyway.

I'll leave this one for the time being and when I can afford it, go for either a Sachs or LUK complete kit with a new flywheel and friction plate.

Fitting costs aren't that much of a concern as I have a mate with a workshop. I look after his IT, he looks after my car ;)

Ahh, that's fair enough then. My old Sachs clutch plate and pressure plate are in the for sale section, if you get free/dirt cheap labour then you should buy that ;)
