Different size tires on same rim?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Have a Superb 170 DSG fitted with 225/45/R17/94W and I have my eye on some Goodyear Vector 4Season tyres but the nearest size available is 225/45/R17/94V

I'm not too worried about the speed rating but is changing the profile hight from 45 to 50 OK.

Regards,

GT

It's recommended on tyre sites that the max difference is 2.5%, those tyres will make 3.55% or 2.49mph at 70mph. 215/50 or 205/50 are within the recommendations as are 215/45 or 235/45. See here My link

You say a different size, but both are 45 in your post? - sped ratings are different, which should not matter much.

But, for tyre size, Read the inside of the fuel cap - if the tyre is not listed, you "should" inform mr insurance man.

Sorry meant to say hte nearest Goodyear Vector 4Season size available is 225/50/R17/94V which thanks to the link above I now know that my speedo/mileo will read slightly wrong.

As it turns out the Vector 4Season are not readily available in IRL and with a blowout on Thurs and all remaining tires screwed I needed something immediately.

So on Friday I got 4 x Kleber Quadraxer's with the exact tire size so I don't need to worry about a different profile size, not only that but they were €115 each fitted as opposed to approx €195 each fitted for the Goodyear.

Appear to be slightly more noisy than the existing Summer Pirellis but grip in heavy rain was good and all i need now is some snow :giggle: to test them out fully.

Regards,

GT
