Fabia VRS - Water problem?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Ive not owned the car long, its a 05 plate.

Basically, the car was fine, but ever since Ive lowered * probably nothing to do with this but, I can fill the radiator bottle to the max mark and within 30ish miles its drank it all, and makes the warning light come on?

Theres nothing leaking out below the car of which I can see?

Just wondered what it could be before I investigate further, and start replacing bits it doesn't need.

Any help would be amazing.

Liam.

That sounds like a hell of a leak, are you sure it isn't leaking externally, because if it isn't then it must be leaking internally which means head gasket failure,I would put a piece of cardboard under the car and fill expansion bottle and run engine and see if you can see any drips on the cardboard from the usual suspects, rad or water pump or a hose etc.also check the oil for signs of water which would point to head gasket problem.you may need to get hold a coolant pressure tester.

Ill have a look tomorrow, might need a full flush, and topping up correctly with anti-freeze too?

Checked for usual headgasket failure and it all looks fine?

Hope you get it sorted, and don't land up with a big bill just before Christmas.

If you ever fill up your coolant it's always best putting anti-freeze in. Also you mentioned you've lowered it recently. Check your pipe work to make sure nothing has been snagged when going over speed bumps etc.

Thats the only thing I HOPE it is, as only been doing in since then really .. Guess its just gonna be a long search until I find some water leaking.. Ill try running it and looking underneath.

Mine (same age) does this, only not so dramatically.

Water level drops just below the minimum level approx every 4-6 weeks which activates the low level bing/light.

Can't find any leaks anywhere, and the head gasket appears to be fine.

Been like this for 2 years now too!

When I take the cap off it hisses as if it's hot and fills back up a bit, and water is being pushed around?

Update - Checked the car thoroughly today, no leaking at all underneath, the radiator isn't leaking and no water in oil showing headgasket failure? Really stuck on what it could be?

get a sniff test done, head gasket failure doesnt always go into the oil.

Could be a number of things. The coolant (if it's VAG G12) has a leak inhibitor and leak telltale (the yellow colour). So if it's leaked and dripped, it should be possible to determine the location. Given the age of these cars now, I'd imagine a number of issues starting with pin-holes in rubber pipes. If so, you might not find them unless the engine is revved.

I hope it's not the HG.

J.
