dsg limp mode

Featured Replies

Yes its me with another problem with my dsg.

On the way to work this morning when the dsg decided to have another hissy fit.

Sat at some lights on a dual carriage way. Lights green and nailed the pull away. No wheel spin and the car pulled better than it has. Pulled the paddle to change into 2nd and bang it goes. Some massive thud from the dsg area followed by complete power loss. it then started to pull again but only up to 3.5k revs. Wouldn't change up or down gear tried putting it into neutral, drive, sport and manual but wouldn't change. Also the gear indicator on the maximum dot was flashing.

Anyway crawled up to the next set of lights. Turned it off and back on and its fine. As if nothing ever happened.

I loved this dsg to start with but its starting to frustrate me now. Any ideas people??

get it to the dealer, and get it repaired/replaced... its broken.

explain what just happened, even if its intermittent , its a dangerous fault, that makes the car "unfit for purpose" so they have to act by law. (use those quoted words, they are the words that can get refunds on new cars that dont work!)

They need to do something will be 4th time I've been to the dealers with dsg trouble.

Then there is history, so surely there has to be an underlying issue

I have had this happen to me twice now when using the paddles but only the massive bang not the loss of power. The first time it happened the bang was so loud i wondered what the hell i had hit, the whole car shuddered.

So I would love to know how you get on with the dealer as I use the paddles alot and its only done it twice so far.

Hope you get it sorted soon

I would get it back to the dealers and tell them I want the gearbox changed and a courtesy/hire car while they wait for parts. Give them one chance to agree and if they don't I'd phone skoda Uk there and then.

Loss of power I would have thought would be an engine fault. There are a few injection and spark plug issues around on these.

Are you sure it's a DSG faullt. If the engine ECU cannot calculate the engine torque, it'll put the gearbox into limp mode to avoid damaging it.

When i say loss of power i mean the power cut out until it dropped to 3k revs then just chugged along at this speed.

I'm sure it is dsg as i have had problems with it before dropping out of gear and not changing when requested. Also there's no reason for my ecu to be struggling with power I've only got an induction kit on it ATM.

Was interested if anyone had experienced this on a drag strip??

mine has happened and going in tomorrow so will find out the cause off this

P1TT8ULL, tom_kvrs have you any updates on how you got on with this problem?

My motor hasn't done it since but its still bothering me.

Apparently nothing appeared on a reading as per normal. Guna take the gear box to explode before they do anything. No problems since and trust me I've tried. Had wheels spinning in many gears to try and recreate.

swy i wouldn't touch a car with this type of gearbox! Its always gonna be problematic... they even cause grief in high priced quality motah's... give it another ten-fifteen years development and time for repairers to understand them, them i might think about it!

Thanks P1TT8ULL  , yes i've been trying to. Just hope if they do end up exploding its under warranty!!

You might be right but i still love the DSG and think it suites the car really well ;) .

I still love dsg even with all the problems I've had. I'm seeing getting a new gearbox as a challenge now.

There aren't that many issues with them tbf. Forums always highlight stuff and the issues with DSG seems to be a lot of 'user error' resulting in phantom faults.

I was talking to a VW master tech not so long ago who said that he rarely sees DSG issues now. Used to see loads when they first came out but now they seem to have sorted all the issues (mainly the mechatronic unit). I also think there are some taxis on here and other forums with stellar mileage on them with no issues.

Exactly. It's the old hospital surgery waiting room analogy. Of course you're going to see people with problem there. As far as I'm concerned if it's good enough for a NIssan GTR when it's good enough for my hot hatch. People who keep going on about it are living in the stone age. Tech moves on all the time
