Naked fabias

Virtually every paper from the times to the sun runs an article every week about skodas telling the masses how good they are and what snobby twits the Brits are ;) It's great

I wouldnt believe ANYTHING the sun prints, it makes up LIES.

Just ask any 1 on Merseyside and wot they printed about Hillsborough.

Also the additional fiction about Rooney. ( only some of it was ture, not all).

Sensationalist rubbish that should be condemed to top shelf newsagents.

Steve

Agree 100% with you Steve.

But I had to chuckle at their headline when Michael Jackson turned up to court in Pajamas:

Banana's in Pajamas!

You'd never catch me buying that peice of ****.

I refuse to buy the Scum, after it's views on Hillborough and also because it's a senstionalist anti union tory rag that only looks at the smaller picture. I cant' remember the last time I looked in a copy and found some news worth reading.

joke mode on

Would this be a good idea ...Sun readers owning a Skoda

 They don't have the mental capacity do they anyway.

I'm suprised the headline is not: SKODA DESTROYING BRITISH MANUFACTURING JOBS BY BUILDING A DECENT CAR. LETS GET OUT OF THE EU WHILE WE STILL CAN!!!!

:sofahide: didnt realise how much THAT paper was disliked.

So how does it stay in business ? - must be subsidised by its betters.

STAMP ON A CAMP Sun headline

The Sun's first article was headlined "stamp on the camps". Had this been any other minority group, would they have got away with it? The Sun is calling for a repeal of the Human Rights Act so that Gypsies and Travellers won?t have the right to a home, but they claim this is not racism because they are highlighting 'good' Gypsies who apparently agree with them and live in a way they find acceptable. The Sun claims that Gypsies and Travellers deliberately flout planning regulations and get a special deal due to the Human Rights Act, which makes them "untouchable".

However, the reality is far removed from the Sun's version of the truth. For non-Travellers planning permission applications have a 12% chance of failure. For Travellers the figure is 90%. Therefore the community has no choice but to apply for permission retroactively, after they move on the land. At least then they have a few years to go through the appeal process (which they pay for). In case you are wondering why they don't live a travelling life, on the whole this has been made impossible due to the Criminal Justice Bill 1994. There is no where to stop anymore, and when they do stop they can be moved on immediately by police and bailiffs. Twenty years ago the government directed Travellers to buy their own land, after removing the responsibility of councils to provide sites. Now site after site is evicted, traumatically, violently, because of the impossibility of obtaining planning permission.

This is racism. Gypsies and Travellers are still the least literate, have the lowest mortality rates of any other group in Britain. Police regularly make brutal attacks on families and communities. Gypsy children are still beaten to death in racist attacks. Having headlines in some of the widest read papers in this county calling for attacks on the Traveller community is bound to be popular because they are the only people in Britain that it is still acceptable to be openly racist to. These articles will make a bad situation worse. For Gypsies and Travellers, to see these articles in the papers is a manifestation of the hostility they experience anyway, and they will stir up more hatred.

the sun? corporate america? oh yes, our most patriotic rag is actually an american front operation since brother rupert moved newscorp to the US

so in the run up to an election, it's handy to whip up some hysteria, some little-englander self-righteousness, so rebe-kka-kka-kka wade can keep hitting the bigot button for her quasi fascist boss rupert and his government chums.

Completely agree that the SUN is crap and their campaign is dangerous / hysterical in the way that they run all their campaigns.

However, I do not agree with the majority of your views on the travelling community. Those statistics you quote are ridiculous - the general public get planning permission more regularly since (a) they are more likely to be doing a small extension etc; (B) even with big developments builders have to conform with tons of regulations (appropriate size etc, amenities provided, affordable housing etc) - travellers in general have large camps and comply with none of these. Sorry, but rules should apply to ALL.

I read the Current Bun when I feel like it. I enjoy a bit of post modernist ironic entertainment now and again. It can be funny reading the editorial and laughing at the jingoistic 'jolly Englander' stance that they always peddle.

I suppose it's quite scary if you consider that some people actually take the views of The Sun seriously.

Having personal experience of Gypsies, I find the above defence quite hard to accept. IMO they live up to their reputation. At least the ones who I have met do anyway.

every single "traveller" i have encountered personally has been very rude, loud, doing something illegal(not everyone but most), insulting, and a danger to society.

the coucil went and bought a house at the bottom of our quiet private street and within a few weeks the house had no wood work left(doors, skirting etc) becuase they had ripped it all down to use as fire wood, a couple of fridges and freezers in the front garden along with some furniture, lots of cars outside(without tax and probably not insurance) that got driven up and down the road very fast with utter disregard for anyone or anything, and a couple of massive trucks.

not saying its connected but lots and lots of sheds got broken into and all worthwhile item stolen.

they(the small children around 5 years old) even went as far as to verbally attack my mother and chase her because they wanted to ride her car(she is disabled and has an electric scooter).

most people got threatened and verbally attacked by them. sorry but i hate them, can't stand them. call me racist because of it but they sure don't seem to help themselves and i wouldn't be sad if i never encountered a "traveller" (gypsy, pikey etc) if i lived to 1000.

btw the above is the personal view of myself and not the board and don't anyone hold it against the board. but to quote a brilliant film: "i fu**ing hate pikeys!!!"

forgot to say that 3 or 4 years later i encountered the same family in another area of oxford and the same kid that harrased my mum bragged that he could easily brake into an escort and hot wire as his brother showed him. little parents never married children.

Interestingly IIRC the Sun are about the only paper who once slated the Fabia vRS around launch time.

I think it was a lady who disliked it immensley :D

Presume she has been dumped after flying in the face of most of the motoring journo world.Anyone know a link for it?
