Wheel Bearings?

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2007 Octavia Estate 1.9 bought new, 90K on the clock, good mixture of town, country and motorway driving through it's life. In August the ABS and ESP warning lights both came on, took the car to my local garage where they said the fault was with the o/s/r wheel bearing which needed replaced, this was duly done and all was good till last week when the same warning lights came back on, took it back to the same garage and this time they said both the n/s/r & o/s/f wheel bearings needed replaced this has now been done and the car is fine.

Just wanted some advce, is this normal in a car of this age / mileage or do you think there's another issue here?

cheers

Dave

I'd expect wheel bearings to last much longer unless their cones have been over/under tightened. Have you by any chance used a pressure washer on it around the wheels? They are notorious for getting water into places that it shouldn't ever be, like the wheel bearings.

Change plenty of wheel bearings, they are bolt on hub units and 90k is pretty good for one.

HI the bearings are usally fine its the relucter ring that fails as its built into the rubber seal of the bearing (the rubber deteriorates)
