Central Locking inop from drivers door key

Featured Replies

Hi all, I am new here, just bought a 2003 Fabia estate Elegance Tdi for the bride, and the central locking doesn't work via the drivers door key, yet it all opens with the press of the button on the drivers door arm rest place. Is it just a case of the sensor around the lock barrel being defective, or is it more sinister, as these do suffer with electrical problems as I keep reading!

Also, along the same lines, as I didn't get the original remote for the central locking with the car, and I'm sure it must have been built with such a device, I was toying with the idea of fitting an alarm system that will incorporate the central locking system, thus doing away with the task of finding the key hole in the dark. Is there any system you can recommend or any problems with doing this, I.E. the immobilizer?

Thanks in advance for any help given!

Wig!

It will either be a switch somewhere, or a wire has given up.

Viper 1002 would be a reasonable cheap alarm system. It has onboard central locking relays so can work with the Fabia's locking system without additional messing around with external relays. It can be set to lock the doors when the engine is running, and unlock when you switch off. I have mine wired so that it unlocks the doors only when the ignition key is removed (using the appropriate wire as switched live).

Viper 5002 is pretty much the same model but with a remote that tells you when the alarm is going off etc.

It's not a bish bash bosh job for installing though, I spent quite a bit of time planning and looking at wiring diagrams for the car etc. Also it's best to solder your connections, rather than use these scotchlok things which can cause issues.

Cheers for that mate, I'll have to find some time to get the door panel off, then report back!

That alarm system sounds great, so I may install one of them anyway. Unless its easy enough to buy a new remote key and program it, I'll have to look in to that too!

Thanks for the swift reply, I'll let you all know what I find!

Thanks again!
