Hi all, I'm new to the site and to cars.

I'm getting a Skoda Fabia 2001 1.4 soon off my brother and one thing I always noticed was the lights would flicker when the engine was running.

Is there anything I can do to fix this when I get the car?

Does it do it when you turn steering. Or all the time with no load on battery ?

Various things could cause this.

Weak main battery.....these cars need a good 60ah minimum size to work as the PAS draws alot of current.

Also check for

Hairline cracks on the metal strip fuse links in the top compartment of the battery box.

The PAS sensor isn't the old plastic cased one.

I'm sure someone else will give you a big list of checks....just wait a bit!
