Dsg concerns

Featured Replies

im having a hard time with my dsg i just cant get on with it and ever since it failed(nothing serious just a pain) and left the car un drivable im worried how to use it because it now seems abit stiff switching modes

to engage drive i have to use the button on the selector

to put it into reverse and park needs the button on the selector

i don't need to use the button going from drive to neutral

to engage sport i have to use the button on the selector ?

to move from sport to drive i can just nudge back to drive without the button

i expect this is the correct behavioural for the box but ive doubts in my mind emoticon-0107-sweating.gif

thanks

I really can't see the point of worrying so much... Worst case, if you can't remember when to use the button just use it all the time and eventually you will find out when it is engaged, that's what I did at the beginning. You can also try to move it without pushing the button and then you will find that sometimes the stick is blocked, then you'll know you need to push the button to disengage.

Generally, while moving, you can make all the normal switches D>S, S>D, Auto>Manual, Manual>Auto without the button. Switching to R is not a "normal" move to do while moving so it is blocked. On the opposite, most switches while stopped, will require you to push the button in order to engage. The button serves as an extra safety measure, in order to prevent an erroneous change.

I know you may be afraid of breaking it or smt! I had that for the first 2 days. Then the third day I was back at the dealers for some paperwork and for some reason the salesman got with my in the car to show me something (I dont remember what) and he took the car for a small drive. Well, when I saw how quickly he moved the stick I thought, it's time to loosen up and use it like a normal stick, and not like being one made of glass... If you know what I mean. So go ahead and enjoy it...
