Stupid question re Xenons!

Featured Replies

How do you know if you have xenon lights? I bought a 2nd hand 2006 VRS and xenons weren't mentioned in the ad. When i switch the lights on they move up and down before positioning themselves centrally and the light given out seems whiter if you know what I mean. cheers

Then you have xenons ;)

The most obvious external clue on the vRS is headlight washers. If you have a colour coded cap under each headlight then you have xenon's.

The headlight wash system is only fitted on a vRS if it has xenon headlights (other Octavia models can have the headlight wash without having xenon's).

The next check is the roller wheel switches next to the headlight switch. Xenon equipped cars only have one wheel to adjust the brightness of the dash lights. As the xenon headlights self-level (the dance / alignment you notice when turning on the lights) there is no wheel to manually adjust the beam height.

It does sound like you've got them. 2 ways to check for sure:

1) Does the car have headlight washers in the bumper and

2) Is there a headlight level adjustment dial by the headlight switch.

If the answer is yes to the first and no to the second, then you do indeed have xenons.

Of course, if you notice that they are much brighter than normal lights, then that could give it away too!

Edit:

cheers guys, I have the colour coded washer bits, not checked the alignment wheel thing, but I must have xenons! great!? or does that mean expensive to replace bulbs etc??

Enjoy the superb light during night and forget about replacements, you might or you might not ever need to change them.

You will also notice they come on slightly different when you turn them on as in an instant light and then they get brighter as they warm up, much like an energy saving bulb at home.

Bulbs should last the life of the car but are around £90 each I think.

cheers I definitely have xenons! glad to hear they should last a while, didn't realise that. Xenons are the way forward obviously

Defo....I've been using a Renault Grand Scenic this week and the lights were like candles compared to my Xenons....
