Headlamp Ticking

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just got a problem with my 1.4(80) TDI.

A week ago I noticed a loud 'ticking' that you can hear in the car even with the noisy engine running!

I eventually worked out it only happens whn the headlights are on and it's coming from the passenger side headlamp.

This car has those module 'projector' type units and I suspect the solenoid.

Has anyone had this issue before?

Do you think it would be covered by an extended (skoda) warranty?

Cheers

P

Could be a jammed headlight adjuster servo something I would think would be covered under warrenty but you never know!

Welcome to the site Spinna. I concur with Raf. It might be the servo motor you can hear kicking in and out indicating a switch fault or a short of some kind in the servo. It may be covered under warranty. Have you tried to adjust the headlights up and down with the switch? You know, the one to the right of the steering on the dash. It may change what the noise does and even cure it if you exercise it a few times.

Hi,

Yes I have tried adjusting the up/down and it makes no difference to the sound, it's practically constant.

However, when i flash between dipped and main beam the noise becomes distorted, which is what lead me to believe it may be the solenoid.

Hi All,

Turned out to be the up/down adjustment motor. Dealers killed it off while I wait for complete headlamp renewal, under warranty thank goodness.

New one getting fitted next week :)
