1.8 TSi servicing need

Featured Replies

I am thinking of changing my Octavia VRS CR170 with DSG for a Superb 1.8 TSi Elegance with the 7 speed DSG box

Long term there seems to be some extra servicing costs associated with my current car.

Cambelt change at 4 years

Change oil and filter(?) at 40000 miles for DSG box

Replace Diesel Particulate filter at some time which I understand is mega expensive

AFAIK none of this is required of the petrol 1.8 TSi unit with the 'dry' 7 speed DSG

However is there anything on the 1.8 that needs a servicing need long term which does not apply to the CR170 diesel

Cambelt change is 100k miles and no age restriction.

Dpf should last life of car as long as treated correctly.

Only cost is dsg service every 40k.

The £120 service every 40k would probably be spent on fuel and tax if you bought the tsi!

JRW,

I agree with most of what you say, but I am sure people are replacing their cam belts more regularly than you say.

Simon

When are VAG going to start using chain driven Diesel engines?

They do but i am going off what Skoda actually say - In the book and SUK.

I thought cambelt change was every 4 years regardless of mileage according to SUK (£300 to £400)

Agreed I would spend more on fuel (abour £300 over 14000 miles) and £25 more on road tax, I would save about £50 on insurance

But I am also looking for something slightly more comfortable than the my VRS hence why I am looking at a Superb

Not on diesels since the 2nd half of 2007 and definitely not on the CR. They run an 'ageless' Continental belt.

Superb is erm superb, i did look at them but they are a bit too OAP for me at the moment :giggle:

I got ripped enough when i bought the Bora as 'its an old mans car' even though it is just a Golf saloon :wonder:
