Abusing the clutch..

Featured Replies

Going up a very steep hill, the car in front was going slowly and then slowed right down with no signal and decided to pull on to a drive.. I had no idea what they were doing so just gradually slowed behind them, as ya would...No real option to nip around them as couldn't see over the hill.

We slowed down so much I had to grab 2nd, but it was one of those moments where something happens that means you can't fully lift the clutch and go...(turning into their drive, didn't use any brakes either which would have at least given me a clue)

Then, as I went to bring the clutch fully up and build some revs, instead of doing what I expected I must have mis judged it as it almost stalled so.. So dipped the clutch back down and went for 1st and it just reved, didn't engage.

I put the clutch in and tried again and this time it worked..

I know it went into gear because it was very smelly.. went for a quick nip around the hilly block afterwards and the clutch seems fine, hill starts and acceleration in "the wrong gear" behaving as normal and no strange free revving before acceleration.

Is this just my bad driving?... or is the the 1st signs of the clutch showing it's 76k?

It's never slipped in 5th or 6th when overtaking or in any situation before. Have I simply just scrubbed 5k off the life of the clutch?

sound like you were riding teh clutch as you were following the other car - bad driving vote from me i'm afraid ;)

Wouldn't say I was riding the clutch, but did dip it with out a full disengage as he suddenly slowed to turn onto his drive, I was in the process of changing gear as he did it, ya see... Hmmmmmmm....

P*ss poor driving bud, you've probably knackered it. New clutch time :giggle:

Seriously, unless it's still doing it, I wouldn't worry about it.

My clutch has been slipping for well over a year now and it's still fine.

Hmmmmmm.... ok lads.

I'm still gonna blame him cuz then I don't have to admit I had a moment of not being the best driver in the world... lmao... which I am, of course.
