Hello all. I've just bought an 04 Octavia Elegance 1.9tdi estate to replace an 05 Pug 407tdi estate, which gave me nothing but trouble and expense in the 4 years that I owned it. It wasn't even nice to drive, unlike the Skoda, which I love.

It's a 116K Mk 1 ex Lex Leasing, and though some of the interior plasticy bits are broken it seems fundamentally sound, and I've just spent some money on new discs and tyres.

But when I turn on the ignition, it gives me 6 "pings". On the Pug similar pings were accompanied by a series of "fault" messages and lights, but this doesn't appear to be the case on the Skoda: all dashboard lights extinguish normally. Is this normal or is my car trying to tell me something?

lol put your seatbelt on before turning the key it should disappear like magic!

And that's the value of forums - this info doesn't appear in any of the handbooks/manuals I've read, but you are absolutely right.

I'll just have to change the habits of 25 years diesel car driving:I generally use the brief "glowplug" period to fasten my belt.

Or live with the pings, knowing they're innocent. Thanks for the gen.

I must confess I thought the same at first lol but then I just happened to put my seat belt on before putting the key in and realised lol.

There is a way of turning it off using vagcom or vcds. There's a map of members on the forum one of them may be able to turn it off for you m8

Vagcom? VCDS? What strange language do I have to learn to drive a Skoda?
