Ticking/Motor Noise from Dash

Featured Replies

I have noticed a ticking/motor type noise which seems to be coming from the Instrument Panel,or Heater controls area. It is not very loud, and cannot be heard when the car is driven due to engine/road noise. The strange thing is as you bring the car to a halt, the noise SPEED drops away to nothing when you are stopped. I have had both front wheel bearings renewed.I believe the speedometer, and rev counter are not mechanical?. Are there any small motors in this area?. I know there are two small motors behind the heater controls, but moving the controls has no effect.Any Ideas Please?

Assume by 2 small motors you are refering to the heater flap motors. Have you tried the heater fan on a higher speed, possibility of leaves etc in heater assy and additional pressure in the the heater box due to forward travel moves the objects slighty to touch some rotataing object, where when stopped the pressure on the items would reduce. On fan speed 1 my heater is noisier than at a higher speed which could be due to dryness in bearings which would be overcome when running a higher speeds with more power.

Hi,

I have tried moving the heater controls ,and it is still the same.As I said before the noise stays the same frequency/volume,and only falls away to nothing as you stop.

I have a similar thing with the Yeti.

Only occurs when the heater controls are set to Auto and the A/C is selected.

Not a problem as I now know what the noise is and it isn't too intrusive when the radio is on

thanks for all the info.I have tried with heater, and air con on, and off ,and this noise is still there?.Any other ideas please?. Does anybody know of any small electric motors under the dash,or footwell area please?

There isn't anything behind there apart from the heaters that I know of. I had the problem with ticking yesterday on all 4 fan speeds, what I found fixed it for me was turning the fans off altogether and then putting them up to 4 straight away. Whatever it was that was catching on the fan blade got blown away. But that was happening even stood still, so it obviously isn't your problem.

Are you sure it's not something more like a wheel bearing very slowly on its way out, or a stone stuck in your brakes? It almost has to be something wheel related as otherwise the noise wouldn't stop when you stop the car...

i had a tickling noise , was loads of leaves stuck in the blower system, left it on max and they eventually came out lol
