06 Vrs petrol gearchanges

Featured Replies

Hi folks just wondering if anyone else had this problem , when the car is cold neutral to 1st and neutral to reverse are tight, also 1st to 2nd not smooth a bit notchy, i've had the gear linkages checked and slight adjustment at main dealer who said if still the same is looking like a clutch problem but would have to strip down and get an inspector out to see if 2nd hand Skoda warranty covers it if not i'd have to pay for the clutch looking about £700, i don't sit with clutch depressed at lights etc and car is treated very well surely the warranty should cover a clutch, also when warm 1st is not smooth to engage and 1st to 2nd,all others are fine, car as done 52k with full dealer history , any thoughts greatly appreciated

Might be worth changing the gearbox oil - we did this on a Golf GTI we used to own and it did help.

Thanks for the reply thats probably a good idea car done 52k now so not sure when would have had gearbox oil replaced before but cheap job to do so can do that in next week or 2 no probs and hopefully make an improvement because its the only thing that spoils a great car

"Its a sealed for life box so no need to change the oil" :wonder: That's what Skoda said to me when i had the box rebuilt last month they obviousy put new oil in, but its very stiff first thing in the morning then couple of hundred yards its fine, i was thinking of changing it for some better quality oil that meets a vag spec something like

If don't mind me asking Grizzle did your gearbox get rebuilt due to failure and was it a warranty job , i take it although they say the box is sealed for life you can still change the oil , i can't see that mine is a clutch problem as most other gears select no problem , nothing crunches no clutch slip etc , noticed last night car had been running half hour and went select 1st at lights and was tight that can't be right surely

yeh i got the box rebuilt under warranty, i have excess play in the flywheel so they checked the gearbox and noticed the needles and bearings needed replaced the gearbox shifted fine i didnt have any issue with it apart from this rumbling noise which sounds like a knackered clutch release bearing but apparently they replaced that also as well as the needles and bearings and the noise??...yep its still there.

I have taken independent transmission specialists advice and its a new flywheel and clutch it needs (although clutch doesn't slip), i will be calling customer services on Monday about it i want it replaced under warranty.

Bet you're not impressed , i would'nt be , if i can change the oil i will , if not mine will be goin in main dealers to get this gearchange issue sorted after all thats reason i bought from main dealer to have Skoda warranty and backup so soon see how good they are with warranty work, the dealer i purchased from have said to use local dealer to me as its too far away too keep going back especially with time to strip and inspect then repair etc , hope you manage get yours sorted asap

My advise would be to use VAG oil, I tried Fuchs oil on my last Octy and it was terrible, so bad I changed back to genuine VAG oil and the notchiness went away.

Definately going to do the gear oil now and would rather put the VAG gen oil in anyway so i'll see when my mate will do it for me at the garage he can do it while i'm thinking about it, mates with own garages are priceless eh
