Which are the worst alloys to clean?

Featured Replies

Anything with a mutispoke are pretty difficult to clean, one of the easiest are the Luna's that used to available on the Superb,

nice big spokes and big enough gaps to get your hands into the insides to keep even the insides of the wheels free from brake dust.

A good tip is to remove them from the car, use a non acidic wheel cleaner on them to get them spotless and then use a good wax on them (I personally use FK1000P ) this will both protect the finish on the alloys and make cleaning them much easier as the brake dust has less to adhere to - providing you clean them regularly, you will also find after they have been waxed that normal car shampoo is all you need to get them spotless most of the time (I only use a non acidic wheel cleaner perhaps 2 or 3 times per year).

The ones on the mk3 Mondeo st look a pita.

Those merc ones look like mk2 Fabia vrs wheels, which incidentally I cleaned on my mates yesterday. Wasn't too bad, but still more work than my pro race 3's. I hated cleaning my S3 avus wheels, the detailing at the tops of the spokes were a right pain.

These on my BMW were a real nightmare

Thats one reason why i wont buy a set of bbs reps for my car because they look like they would be a complete pain to keep clean, bad enough with all spokes on spiders

Jet wash and Megs Wheel Brightner and you will find that all wheels are the same as you don't need to touch them! :giggle:

Fully polished BBS RS's. Nightmare!

Spiders are pretty bad

Had a set of these on my old Celica, were a real 'mare to keep clean.

The wheels on my Integra were also a pain, partly due to being white and partly because of the dust from the Ferodo DS2500 pads.

Spiders are easy in comparison!

Gotta be BMW e30 M3 BBS Wheels. I had a set on my MK2 Golf. To clean them properly (all 4) took about 40mins per wheel (there are about 80 different elements - spokes/dimples etc to each wheel at 30seconds each)

Absolute nightmare. Looked so good when done though.

similar to these but 4stud and mine where much cleaner ;) :

The E30 M3 had 5 stud (5x120 rings a bell?) wheels as std, are you sure yours were not off a std (4 stud) E30?
