4wd or rwd

Featured Replies

thinkin of turning my 02 octy vrs into a project was wondering weather 4wd or rwd is a option?

If you doing that i would start with a 4x4 octavia and put vrs lump into it

4x4's have a different rear chassis

The 4x4 is a very different to the 2wd cars.

different chassis floor-plan all-round.

clearance/tunnel for prop + exhaust, raised fuel cells in the boot.

fairly complex fully independant rear suspension, separate rear sub-chassis to hold haldex diff unit, etc.

People have transplanted the entire floorplan from a 4motion golf into Golf GTI's before, but the economics of being just don't add up.

If you want a 4x4 Octavia, sell the vRS and buy a proper Octavia 4x4.

The floor pans are only different from the boot floor backwards, just behind where the rear seats mount. Propshaft fits up the exhaust tunnel as the exhaust on a 4x4 hangs lower. Saddle tank fits into the same space a normal tank does, then obviously the multi link rear axle bolts behind.

As for buying a 4x4 and transplanting a vRS engine into it, that's not worth it as the engines are identical anyhow.

so is it do-able and what will i need to make it happen

Yeah its possible but really theres no point

a better option would be to start with a 4x4 octy. and convert it to rwd. good tail happy fun, the engine can be tuned up to about 225bhp relatively cheaply nowadays as the 1,8T tuning market is very saturated and used performance items can be had at a bargain.

alternatively.

a TT 225bhp lump mapped up to 240bhp could be a easy drop-in option.

It is doable but not worth the time and money as a 4x4 already exists.

You couild sell your VRS and then be able to buy a 4x4 and still have change to tune it up.

To convert yours you will need all the 4x4 drivetrain and then get the shell modified to take it which will cost more than buying a std 4x4.

And then you will spend a fortune getting an engineers report and convincing your insurance co to insure it.
