Rear number plate anchors

Featured Replies

Has anybody replaced the metal numberplate anchors in the rear hatch :wonder: if so is it straight forward :wonder: Had the common problem of having to drill out old screws to replace delaminating plate for MOT. Would like to retain a screwed on plate rather than stuck on. Also does anyone know if the Fabia II plastic anchors will fit as an alternative :wonder:

Cheers,

TP

I had the same issue two srews simply sheared off when I tried to remove them, the ends are still in and for now I have used sticky pads for the plate. I was just going to drill the screw out then use a slightly larger srew to create a new thread will this not work?

I ended up drilling them out. Replaced them with a nut and bolt.

Nut and bolt to hold a number plate on? doesnt it look a bit ott?

Thankfully the MKI Fabia has threaded inserts in the hatch.....I just use stainless steel hex cap bolts and washers.....looks cool and doesn't rust!!! B)

As for replacing the inserts.....hhhmmmmmmmm....pass......just carefully drill and rethread?????

Pretty good idea that, mm if only I could get my rusty screws out...

I had to drill them both out then used a dremel to get the complete thing out both sides. I now use plastic number plate screws and nuts from helfrauds.

Did you have to retap?

I used double sided security tape same as used in double glazing

to hold the glass units in the frames.

Plate would break before it came off that's for sure.

Sticks like **** to a blanket.
