more problems! arghhh

Featured Replies

so had a wee doctors appointment this morning, rolled out my bed, tossed on some clothes out to the car, started. just as i pull away BAM steering warning light, thought sod it will look when i get home, about 200 yards further. BOOM engine management, great. got home and as i pulled into the driveway the steering went heavy, no longer had power steering.

is this likely to be the pump or is it more common for the angle sensor to be the issue? with engine management coming on just after the light im thinking pump but not sure.

I wouldn't have thought both sensors would be faulty...

Which might point the finger at the ABS control unit itself.

Has a plug come loose?

i know for a fact both sensors are broken, happened when changing wheel bearings last week. awaiting a new passengerside hub arriving and i will buy new sensors and so all that at once. but nothing explains my steering issue, no code for pump or angle sensor

The steering can "go" without it tripping a fault code....after it has gone several times it then trips a code.......happened to my car and my mates car!!!.....Easy check.....look through the drivers wheel arch to the base of the steering column..near the ARB bush mountings.....there is a black plastic block facing you (2" by 2" by 1/2") with a wire coming out....this is the old (faulty) style..if it is a smaller goldie coloured metal one then it is the newer style! old and new style what? sensor?

old and new style what? sensor?

Yup, that is where it lives.

old and new style what? sensor?

Yes there are two styles of PAS sensors...old plastic style and newer modern metal style.....old one is prone to fail.. B)

ok so its been a few days driven the car quite a but and now rescanned, with no new codes. nothing relates to steering but the light is still on, i cleared engine managment light and its gone for now......would steering pump and angle sensor throw up a code if it was them? if so then im confident those are ok and it can be narrowed down to the faulty cluster (booked in for replacement tuesday, the battery or alternator or even because both abs sensors are broken

Last month i had to replace the steering angle sensor on mine, had all the symptoms of flickering headlights, extremley heavy/light steering at random for about 1 month previous to me changing the sensor. In all this time i never had one fault come up relating to the sensor, although once changed... perfecto!!

how much was a sensor?

I got mine from dealers...£140 ish...but includes a refundable £35ish surcharge on the return of the old one in GOOD condition!!! B)
