Alarm not working

Featured Replies

Yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to try out the alarm on my car so that a) I know that it works and B) I know what it sounds like.

I locked myself in using the remote fob, and sat for a while moving my arm. Nothing happened.

Unlocked it and then put the drivers window down, got out and left it for 5 minutes to see if the wind blowing the air freshner would do anything. Nothing happened. Put my arm through the window and waved about to see if the sensor would pick it up, and again nothing happened.

Am I doing something wrong here or is my alarm just not working? Where abuts is the sensor located? Centralmlockingnworks fine and the remote fob does also. When I lock the car I get the red flashing light bathe drivers side door. The horn works and fuse 60 looks fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you lock it, how many times are you pressing the lock button on the fob?

Just the once. I hear it locking and the indicators flash.

Any suggestions? :(

So it's not just me then!?

Mine works because it has gone off when the boot lock wasn't locking and I could open the boot when the car was locked but I am also tried doing exactly as you have.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the interior sensors only kick in after a long delay (20 mins or so) but not sure or checked on that one.

I have also checked with vagcom that the interior monitoring is enabled (as sometimes it isn't) and it is on mine.

In mine the sensors are above the interior light but not sure on the fabia.

Also I have a siren on mine and it doesn't use the horn for the alarm.

Thanks for the response. I think I'll try the 20 minute theory out when I get home later. Bit daft having it at 20 mins!

I've also tried VAGCOM and it's showing no errors. Really strange...

Mines gone off after less than 20 mins before. Was trying to do the two presses to deactivate the alarm but didn't seem to work for me!

If there is a delay like 20min chances are the idea is to prevent false alarms by ensuring the most dramatic changes in humidity and air temperature inside the car have already taken place.

Similar with tilt sensors. Generally a car's suspension will take a short while to settle once all passengers and luggage is removed, so tilt sensors will have a short delay to take this into account.

Mine is working and I don't have to wait for 20 min. The problem is there is no sound alarm, all I can see is the hazard lights coming on. Anyone know where is the alarm and what type of batteries do I have to buy? I know that the alarm is not using the horn and you have to replace the batteries!

Sit in the car and lock it with the fob with one press only, wait maybe 30 secs and unlock the doors with the button by the window switch and open the door and the alarm should sound.

I've just had the beep enabled for lock/unlock on my car and it's great :D

Beep on lock and unlock is, as I understand it, illegal under EU laws. Hence why the beep was disabled when the car was new. I doubt you'll go to jail or be fined though, and doesn't seem to stop other cars. Most seem to be after market alarm systems.
