Service reset

Featured Replies

Hi all. This is my first post here - it looks like an interesting group. The Skoda owner in my family is my wife (Octavia 1.8 20V) but I have to say I'm as smitten with the car as she is. We have a slight problem. The car was on variable service intervals but we've just had it serviced with standard oil as we'd prefer the normal annual service approach. We've just started getting dash reminders to tell us the service is due in 1000 miles. I've tried carrying out the reset procedure as per the manual but nothing seems to be as described in the book. I've tried the ign off, push and hold trip button, ign on approach but I certainly don't get any readout saying Service Insp or any such so can't go to the next step of using the clock button to alter the code. Do I have to wait until the service is due before I can reset it? Any ideas gratefully recieved.

Welcome to Briskoda. :) Another option is to ignore the warnings - which shouldn't be difficult since they should only appear for a few seconds on startup. I'm not sure why the display is coming on if you have just had the car serviced since the service interval display should have been reset as part of the service. Did you have it serviced by a non-VAG garage perhaps or do it yourself? The display can be reset by someone with VAG-COM software and interface. If you post your location someone here might be able to help.

Will require VAG COM or dealer equipment to reset. But it shouldnt have come up if you have had it serviced as it should have been reset by the dealer.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. Sorry, I should have given more information - we took the car to the non-VAG garage we've used for years so the service light wasn't reset by them. I'd already considered ignoring the warning as an option but I don't think "the management" will go for it :-) - and it is her car after all. I've now downloaded the VAG-COM freeware version and my brother-in-law says he can make up a connector cable so I guess that's the way to go. As an aside, how much damage can an idiot like me do with the VAG-COM? (Sigh) We never had this trouble with the Estelle or the Favorit!

Thanks again. Mike

I am not sure whether or not the shareware (ie unregistered) version of VAG-COM software allows you to reset the service indicator. Perhaps one of our members with the shareware version and cable can comment?

Ross-Tech's table of differences in function between both versions is here.
