Is this a record?

Picked up a brand new 1.2 Roomster SE Plus today. Managed to break-down having only done 9 miles!

Salesman came out with a courtesy car and a technician, but couldn't sort the problem. The tech thinks it's an overheating fuel pump relay. Brought his diagnostic computer with him, but it wouldn't boot up! (don't you just love MS Windows...)

The car was PDI'd and showed no faults -anybody else had a new car break down with less than 10 miles on the clock?

Still, at least I get to drive about in a brand new Octavia Elegance for a couple of days...

Well done m8 that must be hard to beat!! Hope they get it sorted soon and you get no more problems. Just don't get to like the octy too much or you might end up trading it in with 10 miles on the clock!!

Sounds like a dealer plot to make you buy an Octy

Actually getting to quite like the Octy now :) It's a 1.6 CRD, which I didn't like at all when I test drove a Roomster with it. Seems much quieter in th Octy - more weight in the body and more soundproofing I guess. Still not as refined as the Fiat MultiJet diesel I'm used to driving though.

Having now recently driven a Fabia, Roomster and Octavia, I can honestly say I like them all! I'm struck by how similar they all are to drive.

Now, if it breaks down again, perhaps I can blag a Superb L & K as a courtesy car :giggle:

Any news on what they found wrong?

Nothing yet. No techs in over the weekend, hopefully hear today. Just hope I haven't got a lemon!

Just had an update from dealer... They still don't know what's wrong because they still can't get their new diagnostic software to run :S

That's really strange, you would of thought they use the software every day

Apparently it's just been updated and hasn't worked since! Was suprised to see their diagnostic rig ran Windows 2000. More state-of-the-ark than state-of-the-art!

Noticed this at the Fiat dealers as well - their rig ran Windows 98!

What is it with car service departments and steam powered computers?

I believe that VAS only runs on Windows 2000, my dealer has the same on Windows 2000. As the pc is only used for this and has no external connections except for a direct network link to Skoda HQ the Operating system age does not really matter. it cannot get a virus or hacked as it has no internet, no email or anything else except the VAS software.

York dealership has updated their software without any problems unfortunately their central server is down meaning no looking up parts or invoices. Lucky for me the vw dealership round the corner from them were working lol

Hooray, finally got our car back  Turns out it was just a multi-plug with a dodgy terminal - under the back seat, so connection to the fuel pump/gauge sender I assume.

As a token they've filled up the tank with petrol :D Must say I've enjoyed driving the Octy for a couple of days, but its nice to finally have our car...

Sooo when you trading it in for a octy?? :giggle:

We actually wanted a Yeti initially, but the boot was too small to take our 2 greyhounds! See what they bring out in the next couple of years... Do quite fancy an Octy estate though :D

Win2k is still widely used in surprising places. I noticed only a couple of weeks ago that Lloyds still use NT4 actually.
