service due indicator - seems way too early advice please

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Not been on here for ages.. had a golf for a short while now back in the good ole land of the Skoda :)

I had my 1.6 Turbo diesel Octavia serviced back in June 2011 at which point it had 19217 on the clock. It is set to variable servie intervals.

My driving mainly consists of to and from work - 25 miles mixture of city and fair chunk of motorway/country windy roads and then some weekend driving.

As at arriving home tonight the mileage reads 27668 and about 2-3 days ago the display flashed up that a service was due in 1000 miles.

Now this seems ludicrously early, both time and mileage wise - haven't called my dealer yet (Hobin Skoda) as wanted some opinions off here before I call them.

What do you guys think ?

many thnaks in advance

100% sure its not in fixed?

100% sure its not in fixed?

Well the sticker says it's in variable and when it went in in June I instructed them NOT to change it to fixed which they said they wouldn't do anyway

it sounds like it was switched to fixed servicing at the last service by mistake which is very easy to do. If the dealer reset the service indicator using the instrument cluster it will revert to fixed 10K servicing, for variable it must be reset using the OBD port.

Sounds like they've reset to fixed.

What does your invoice say?

don't know not dug that out - I'll do so tomorrow night n report back - thnaks guys :-)

I agree with Manny. If it was set to fixed service intervals at 19217 miles, it will be due the next service at 28537 miles, ie 15000km/9320 miles after the last one. That ties in with the service due in 1000 miles warning. The car will now need to be given a further variable service before it can be reset to variable service intervals. Did you pay for a variable service last time, including LongLife oil? If so, I would be looking for a discounted service from the dealer.

Note to self: Must learn to type faster...

As the OP's Octavia has a DPF then long life oil should have been used regardless of fixed or variable.

That weakens the case for a discounted service - but I would still give it a try.

OK not been able to quickly find the invoice so looks like a call to the dealership and get them to take a look.

thanks for the replies guys
