Any ideas please? Mate has got one playing up and want to test / change this unit. I would have guessed it is in all the crap under the dash/steering wheel / above your knees when driving. Even better, does anyone know the part number or other external reference to this module unit?

I think it's part of the convenience unit, which in the Octavia 1 is behind the light switch. If you mean Fabia 1 it's between the clutch pedal and centre console. There's plenty of part numbers depending on the equipment fitted, a scan with VCDS should get the part number for you.
