Going on the assumption that you have no mods to your car other than the stage 1 map, ideally you need the following mods to get the best out of your custom map:

  • 2.5"/3" downpipe and sports cat + 2.5" cat back system (both essential for best results)
  • Quality air filter (K&N, Piper, Green etc.) - not any of this ebay cheap $h!te....
  • Forge 007 recirculation dump valve
  • Forge front mount intercooler (essential for best results)
  • Decent plugs/coil packs/MAF etc. Worth cleaning every service

In addition to the above list, you need to have a well maintained engine that has been serviced regularly. As a rule I do a basic fluids service on mine every 5k or 6 months (oil+filter, fuel filter etc.)

Turbo engines NEED looking after otherwise they will go BANG, especially when mapped to 1.3/1.4bar..

Sensible power should be around 230/240bhp & 240/250 ibs/ft torque.

A lot of people state higher figures but that is with a boost spike where for a brief moment you might peak at 250/255bhp - this is bo!!ox, you want something that is mapped with a nice linear torque/power progression.

Your KO3s turbo will only flow a small amount of power, mid range will be good, but by 4500/5000rpm your power/torque will be falling off.

I.e: 4k = 240, 4.5k = 220, 5k = 200, 5.5k = 190, 6k - 170, 6.5k - 150

Anyone reading this for reference I wouldn`t bother with upgrading to a bigger bore exhaust. Standard factory diameter is absolutely perfect for stage 2. You gain nothing going for bigger!

Im going to be

Ths twin pass fmic

Piperx vis carbon

Forge 007p

Will i still make 230-240bhp without exhaust /cat as its not something im interested in changing??

Any1

Power is nothing without control. I would seriously consider uprated diff, clutch, suspension and brakes before going to stage 2. But will probably cost as much again as car is worth. But hey if like me it's a weekend toy then it's not an issue.

If you look at the spec of Steevie Wonders car that's how to do things properly !

Will be on weitec coilovers

Front and rear ARB's are the first mod to consider you will be amazed at the transformation.

Not interested in arbs i dont hammer it...

The exhaust is the most restrictive part! Especially the standard downpipe and cat! Have you not seen a pic of the standard 2.25 downpipe vs a 3 inch one?

Upgrading to a 2.5 or 3 inch downpipe and a sports cat (or decat) is the single biggest improvement you need when doing stage 2. And the cat-back system... if you upgrade one half of the exhaust system you might as well do the other, as if not then you have to fit a reducer.

The intercooler is necessary for keeping IATs down so the ECU doesn't pull the timing and you can make use of the power again and again. While you can run a stage 2 without an intercooler it will only be at its best when cold and will run like a standard car once warmed up.

The cold air intake kit will gain you a couple of bhp at the most and the Forge DV is really just needed because you will be running a higher psi peak boost than the Bosch valve can handle regularly (i.e. it won't directly affect the power).

Here's what AmD require you to have for their Stage 2 remaps:

If you look on REVO's website there will be a similar list for Stage 2.

But as group1rs says - handling and braking first. They can be amazing cars with just 180bhp if you bother to sort out the suspension, wishbones, brakes etc. If you just do power mods then you end up with a car thats fast on straights but can't go through corners.
