Super charger

Featured Replies

Should the shove from the super charger be noticeable my car just seems abit slow till the turbo kicks odd It just seems slow has anyone had any problems with it ?

Should be fairly noticeable, always was on my Ibiza.

Few issues with the magnetic drive on it so i'd get it checked out.

Would a intermitentent buzz at 2k be another sign somethings up ?

Can most definitely tell the difference. I norm get a little click and nice big sucking sound (induction kit) with abit of charger whine and away it goes in half a second or so.

Impossible to say, bee under your bonnet??

you should be able to hear it... main thing is (I cant really feel the "shove" ) it should feel like a bigger negine than a 1.4 ;) pulls all the way through... if you have it a bit flat , then 2.5k and the turbo makes it fly, you may have a problem... mine is quite linear...

Definitely noticeable, even drivin' away at 2nd gear and pushing it just a little more, you can hear the "whoooshh"... What I did not hear clearly though was the turbo, I sort of waited to hear something like silly aftermarket ones that make a ridiculous "bang", although the sound is different inside the cabin than it is from the outside. The one and only time that I heard my car accelerating with me outside of it, I did hear the turbo blow, shouldn't admit it but it I liked it a lot... :p

I have never though understood the turbo kick-in as in other single turbo cars... Up to a point, I wondered If the turbo actually worked after the supercharger or not... I guess the transition is so smooth that it'd be very hard to notice...

the changeover is staged.. supercharger works up to 3.5k, turbo starts at 2.5k, between 2.5k and 3.5k they are both blowing..

Sure, I've read about this on a nicely posted service manual for the 1.4 TSI in the official documentation thread. So, that means the turbo's start is sort of "hidden" by the supercharger going on before it, right?

indeed, so it should be kind of linear.... although you will always get more power with more revs ;)
