Phone Skoda Assistance - they will tow to a dealer of your choice, you will get priority booking (have targets to meet) and you will be supplied with a Europcar hire car if the dealer doesn't have one.

I was just saying to the missus before, imagine if that happened up in Cumbria hah!

Anyway, not to worry, I'm going to the airport in a few hours to go to Germany and get drunk! Brilliant! :)

Will give you an update when I get back. Take care.

An update for you guys.

Car went in today. Went back to check up how it was doing, the response:

"It's looking like it might need a new engine, only maybe though, will ring you later"

Got a response later saying:

The cable to the map sensor has broken therefore leading to a low map signal error, therefore causing the backfire. Cable replaced, car seems to be running smooth as anything now.

Begs the question though, how long has said cable been broken? Has it been intermittent for a good while without me noticing?

Hum doesn't sound good as I'd have little confidence after just being told it maybe needs a new engine time to suddenly its only a cable :wonder:

Hope this is the end of your issues Stu

I thought this myself, but it seems really smooth now. Like perfect smooth.

So, maybe it was a misdiagnosis originally. He did say "only maybe, so don't worry too much" about the engine.

Let's look at it positively, car is still under warranty if it still keeps going wrong, so it's fine nevertheless.

Sorry didn't mean the car I ment the dealers. Lots of stories like this give me the feeling they realy don't know maybe as much as they could about the 1.4 twin chargers

lol.. this is true, although I've had no problems, and my dealer is great, i remember at the first service watching through the glass.. ALL the mechanics comming over for a nose under my bonnet as the tech was servicing it...

makes you wonder how many they have seen ;) or maybe they were just interested in the car , I dunno ;)

glad its fixed stu! makes me wonder if other people have had new engines, and a broken wire was the cause?! :S

surely they would do a compression test, check the valve seals ect ect.. not just jump to "its misfiring, dont know why, replace engine..." seems the old school "Ed China" type mechanic has been replaced by a laptop!

Exactly, but if I got a free engine I wouldn't be moaning! :)

I'm still wondering how long it could have been potentially broken for...guess I'll never know.
