Clicky check strap

Featured Replies

As I mentioned in an earlier thread, the passenger door check strap has been clicking whenever you open or close it.

I could see quite quickly that the retaining bolt on the door was loose. I tried to use an 8mm spine fitting but while it sort of fitted, it wasn't quite right. Is it another type of fitting? Or has someone tried to bodge it previously and ruined the spline?

Thanks

Martin

They might have, it'll be a Torx bolt.

Had to replace one on my son's 03 Fabia last year winter, cold and ice broke the plastic profile. Replaced it myself, not that expensive from the dealer and from recollection I used a 2.5 torx (lost it in the snow  ) the other end I will have to check again the size.

Hi Tim,

25 torx, was that the bolt on the door? Is there supposed to be a spring washer or something under it as it seems it keeps working loose?

Yes the 25 is on the door but there are no washers behind. Possibly you have some damage to the threads due to it working loose before. Could try a dab of superglue on the threads as a DIY measure.

Normally they are an M8 spline on the single bolt into the door and the two into the car on the other end are T30 torx.

I only know because I was sat in my car at the time and had a look lol

So I wonder.....

a ) why my m8 spline didn't seem to fit properly.

b ) why it keeps coming undone. Think some Loctite might be in order? Or is that too much? PTFE tape?
