I've heard about this...only two levels of diming.......and not in the user manual section on maxi-dot or anywhere else.....and not really adjustable "on the fly".....if you know what i mean!!

My point exactly......."not adjustable on the fly"..........would prefer to have a "wheel" to adjust directly like I have on my MKI Fabia.......faffing around in the Maxi-dot for the single/double setting is not what I would call "user friendly"....which is why the above mod looks interesting!!!!!..

I've checked all the Maxi settings and there's nothing there. I've checked the owners manual and there's no mention whatsoever.

Apparently to do the auto lights you need a different switch to the one I quoted which does not have "auto lights"..which is why the switch I quoted is the "correct" one to just give you the additional dimming as the siemens dimming chip is built into the circuit board of the switch!!!!!!......

What 'daylight' box ?

It's in the maxidot. Puts the clock forward an hour for summer time - saves having to faff about with hours and minutes and supposedly dims the instrument lighting when the headlights are turned on. (Doesn't work on mine.)

Clock is fine? It does not work on time as this wouldn't work summer/ winter works when headlights come on, you have to have maxi- dot

So we are back to what i and the OP said.....no dimming of dash lighting unless you do the switch mod as described in the posts that are linked to and translated....... :wonder:

And by reading the various threads it looks like you have to disconnect pin17 on plug (gr/bl Grey/blue???) wire and isolate, and then connect pin 16 (gr/gn Grey/Green????) to pin17!!!

Just had a look at the wiring info that I have for Fabia MKI (i know its different but uses similar switch as Octavia/Fabia MKII/Roomster) from Haynes

Headlight part of switch

Pin 1 = Black/red stripe = from ignition switch

Pin 4 = White/black stripe = to main/dip switch part of stalk

Pin 7 = Yellow/green stripe = to Fuses 54 (15A), 50 (15A), front dip beams, & Fuse 6 (5A) leveling motors

Foglight part of switch

Pin 2 = Red/black stripe = from "x" contact relief relay

Pin 8 = White/yellow stripe = Fuse 65 (15A) front fog lights

Pin 9 = Grey = Fuse 37 (7.5A) rear fog light

Sidelight part of switch

Pin 13 = Grey/black stripe = Fuse 34 (5A) to LH front side light and rear tail light

Pin 14 = Grey/red stripe = Fuse 333 (5A) to RH front side light and rear tail light

Pin 15 = Red = from Fuse 2 (110A) via terminal 30 junction

Pin 16 = Grey/blue stripe = Fuse 36 (5A) number plate lights

Misc

Pin 10 = Grey/blue stripe = from electrical system control unit for the switch illumination

Pin 10 = also labled as Brown = Earth = this could be a Haynes misprint!!!!

Pin 17 = Brown = Earth

Personally I would use a continuety tester and run it across all the pins on both the OEM and the Octi' switches to double check which pins/wires are for what then the switch is in all the different opperating positions!!!!

P.S. I take NO resposability for any mistakes/blow-ups/damage etc as a result of my information!!!!!....just covering my own back!!!.

I don't know what is this but I can tell you that my intsrument cluster has it too but I it's at the speedometer, by the way my cluster is not a maxidot but an mfd. I asked but never got answer, the best was an assumption that it is an empty position for some kind of warning light at more spec-ed cars. See the picture below it's in the red circle. I know it is not very clear but blame my old phone for that. Picture is 18 months old.
