Engine oil spec.

Featured Replies

I am about to change the oil in my wifes Fabia 1.2 Classic. 5W/30 Fully Synthetic oil is specified but Autocarparts are also listing 10W/40 semi synthetic as suitable. Can someone please advise me how necessary it is to use fully synthetic. It seems a bit drastic for a basic engine that never gets used hard.

Regards carbman.

 I would use the best oil recommended....no point spending thousands on a car and risk it's good health to save a tenner on oil.

I wouldn't just stick in a 10w40 semi.

That used to be the de facto engine oil years back when changes were every 5-6k and the engines asked for thicker oil.

If your manual says 5w-30 fully synth, then that's what you should feed the engine.

Okay lads, point taken. I'll do what the manual says.
