cold start prob felicia diesel

Featured Replies

Hi well I know I'm only a new member but I'm hoping for some help, I have been very happy with my skoda - but recently it has been developing some cold start problems . It takes quite a lot to get it going - it sounds like its only starting on one cylinder , but when warm it runs and starts fine .

I don't know a great deal as this is my first diesel . but so far I have tried removing a glow plug as I wondered if this might be the cause - it looked a little bit sooty but this cleaned up easily , the end was slightly pitted but not bad . I then connected it back to the wire and metal strip while still out of the engine - hoping to observe if it glowed when I turned on the ignition . It doesn't really seem to get hot . I am now wondering if maybe I need to replace the cold start sensor ( something I read on another posting ) is there a way I can do some tests ? I'm no expert but I do have a decent multitester .

many thanks

Ade

Might pay to check all the glowplugs are working, had this trouble a few times on different vehicles and 9 times out of 10 they are what's at fault. Good luck!

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard . My initial instinct if ok hot and poor cold would be glow plugs . Can't help any more as this one is my first diesel ,but I've been driving oilers for more years than I care to remember( at work) and it always seemed to be the first port of call for mechanics .
