Engine shuddering when turned off

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I have a problem with my 08 rs cr tdi. Just recently its started to have engine shuddering when turned off. I decided to remove the throttle valve and erg valve to clean them. They where pretty dirty too. So fully cleaned them. The shudder valve I noticed on the electrical plug socket some oil so I removed the electrical box cover and found a lot of oil which I'm sure shouldn't be there! So I cleaned it out with electrical cleaner and fitted it back to the car after allowing to dry. Shudder still there but the car feels like it had a little bit more power.

So my question is, what do I check next? I see a mention of a blown fuse on other forums, but I checked the fuses in the engine bay with all being ok, none blown. So where to next?

Does the throttle flap need replacing since the seals seem to be letting oil into the electrical control circuit?

Hope you can help

That oil shouldn't be there and that was a warranty fault on the PD, which had the part replaced.

IMHO, I'd check that the flap is actually shutting, because if it isn't, that's what is causing the shudder on shut down.

Thanks for the advice. I'll remove the pipe below it and see if the flap is closing when the engine is turned off. The car is out of warranty since the end of August. Maybe they will do a goodwill gesture....

OK I CHECKED TO SEE IF THE VALVE IS WORKING and it is.

But I'm still getting the same problem, the confusing thing is that

it stops normaly every now and then. The flap dosen't snap shut it's not the quickest

at closing.

Any other ideas?

Cheers

I'm afraid for me it still lands with that flap. I don't know for your engine, but on older engines, the shut was a reasonably quick shut.

Have you had somebody with VCDS give it a scan for fault codes to see if there are any logged?

It could still be the flap that's causing the issue, maybe its a little lazy in closing. The engine is shut down before the flap is fully closed.....

I did a check with vcds and there is no faults showing at all. Its driving great to and super economical with the dpf removed.

Would like to see what the flap choosing is like on another car., in saying that I have access to a 09 Audi A6 with a cr 2.0tdi hopefully its easy to see get at.
