Installing car kit.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I will be installing a Parrot MKi9100 in a week or so into my 2005 MKII Octavia. I am going to put the screen between the centre airvents by the hazard switch. Any recomendations on where to hide the control box? Is there much space behind the radio for it or where is it best to put it?

Some cars I have done this in the past have had loads of space while others have no room at all so I want to know what the general consensus is from others who may have done it on an Octavia before.

Thanks

Richard

There is not much room behind the stereo, however there is behind the top vents/cubby hole assembly (comes out in one piece) you can hide the contol box here. Also makes it quite easy to get to if you need to service the kit.

Great thanks for the info!

I fitted a Nokia CK-7W to my Octy. Took the top cubby/vents out, then reached in towards the instrument cluster, there was enough room to fit the control box there, mounted with velcro, on what felt like a small 'shelf'. No stress on the connectors once fitted either.

The CK-7W came with a charging cable too, which is now fitted in the top cubby, with a small hole drilled to allow the cable in. So now I can just pop the phone in the cubby and charge it whilst going along with no cables trailing or stuff hanging out the 12v socket.

I have a mkI octy and I don't know if the mkII is the same but I put the control box ofr my Parrot behind the glove box, then ran the microphone cable up the windscreen pillar on the passenger side and through the head lining to the light. There was plenty of space to tuck it in with the fan for blower etc.

that's how I did mine on my Mk II Octy

I went 1/2 way up the driver's A-pillar, so the mic is in direct line. Apparently (and I've never tried it from 'the other end') it sounds quite clear. Although I did go all the way to the light fitting when I did one on my Focus.

What I do find with a lot of car kits is the amount of cable you sometimes get - you could almost mount the control box in the boot!!!
