help needed battery warning light on

Hi my battery warning light has come on and stays on and it make a beep noise to i have been told by a tech not to drive the car as it will blow up the car is a 51 reg fabia 1.9sdi could it be the battery or the alternater if i vag com it would anything show up

You can check the charge rate with a multi meter. The Battery should be around 12v+, when you run the engine the reading should go to just over 14 volts.

i been told the there is power goin to the alternater but northing coming out off the alter but i can smell like a burning wire smell so am goin to check the wires on the alternater to starter motor comon prob i have heard they break

i have found wot the buring was on the battery there is fuses and number 1 with the black wire has been buring i have disconnected the battery and i will know track back the wire to where is gos

finger crossed it all done the earth lead that gos to from the fuse 1 on the battery tray is the on that was burning and it the lead that go's to the alternater as rubber on something and gone down to bare wire which has made it all earth out the burn the plastic battery tray i have but 4 layers off insurlation tape on the cable and took my fuse tray off a spare fabia on my drive which am rebuildin and i have orderd a new battery tray complete with fuseies and a new cable to which should be here on monday then i will be able to fit it all before xmas but it safe now but i wot be leaveing it like it thou just tell me parts turn up then i will fitt them
