it just needs a good run or a good thrash up to the redline a few times when the engine is up to temp to burn off all the condensation. My mk3 golf 1.4mpI used to do it all the time after short runs.

Thanks. Will have to try it. I have never taken the engine above 4300 rpm ish. Usually do urban driving and change up at 2000 rpm and on motorways as well I keep it under 4000 rpm. Thanks for the advice. VW should have sorted it out. Its not like this engine was made for rally driving.

I wouldn't mind revving it if it was a company car. But as its my own car, am a bit reluctant to rev it to the red line (ruining the piston rings in the long run). Had a new Hyundai i30 for a year. Drove it the same as this and never had any such problem. The new i30 looks nice as well. Might go for that in a couple of years.

I was only going by conventional wisdom.... Which tells u that the more u 'thrash' the engine, the sooner it will need a rebuild. Manufacturers advise to change up to a higher gear between 2000-2500 rpm to maximise the fuel returns. Unlike for modern diesel engines, there is no recommendation for petrol engines to be driven at more than 2500 rpm for 10 minutes to clear the particulate filter. But which I invariably do when driving on the motorways. Guess its just a characteristic (side effect) of the mpi engines. I have had no such issues with the some other new cars I have owned. Seems like a wasteful way to keep an engine working optimally, especially when petrol is 1.40 a litre, don't u agree? Thought I was through my spirited driving of the octavia after the initial running in. Thanks for the insight anyways.

In my experience mayo under the oil filler cap is not unusual. Some engines are more prone than others. My big 6 pot 5 series got it all the time if I pottered around on short journeys. I never red line my engine purposely and find a nice long drive always disperses the mayo and gets rid of the condensation which is what is causing the problem.

I took a test drive the 1.4 mpi last week. Have ordered one in white..... the plastic surround around the AC controls, right in the top-middle of the dash is Very plastiky (maybe to differentiate it from VWs). The rest of the dash seems fine. I think they have done this deliberately to dumb it down a bit. Alex Laurie Skoda will let me know on Monday, when it will be delivered.

I've done the same (took delivery on Friday) so hello Furby Forum.... our second flurry into the world of Skoda. 1.4 SE 16v MPI - I do enjoy driving but on this occasion I've gone with this motor as I think it makes sense. Its doesn't send your heart racing but apart from that, its so easy to drive, light steering and plenty enough umpf if all you expect to do is poootle around. After a few days & with 100miles on the clock its doing just over 40mpg & this has been increasing everytime I go out. I reckon an average of 40mpg should be achieved without too much trouble & +45mpg if careful.

As for value for money.... ok only 86ps but its brand new & has a 3 year manufactures warranty, 3 years RAC cover, not MOT required for 3 years... its got plain but easy to clean alloys with 195's, air conditioning, a CD player, an MP3 Aux, electric front windows a trip computer & for a "small car" bags of space.... I'm 6ft 2 & can't believe how much space there is! (for an extra £85 also got both a full size spare(+the compressor) & the side moulding trims).

Even if we only keep the car for a year I cant see that we would loose more than £1.5k (maybe less) & even after 3 years surely I'll get close on £6k back.... I think its a good deal, especially for peace of mind.

I look forward to having more positives to say in due course but so far, I'm happy & impressed....

Many congratulations. Which colour did u buy? Ibwil know today when I can expect the delivery. The dealer said hopefully by the end of the month. My dealer Alex Laurie Skoda, Liverpool is charging me 125 pounds for a full sized spare and jack(and no side mouldings as well), so u got a good deal on that.

I am not saying drive it like you stole it all the time, simply saying, give it a good run/thrash one a week/fortnight. For eg i used to blast my Bora up the Slip road of the motorway going to work once a week to clear all the diesel crud out the engine. Used to turn the sky back so could clearly see it was doing good.

Dont want to pour cold water on your new purchase but think it would be unlikely you will get £6k as a tradein in three years time - 67% of the purchase price???

Might be closer to £3.5k - but I am not a motor dealer and cannot predict the future value of cars!!!

I also went for a white one... I think its the best of the 3 colours but it will need washing regularly :S but I tend to anyway... can't be much worse than black LOL,

Ok I might be being a bit optimistic on the the price down the line but I'll view £6k technically as being 50% (ok ambitious & possibly dubious - but I never trade in - sell private always, a Stealer shouldn't win twice!!) but I believe that the 2nd hand price is based on a % depreciation of the list price &.... er of course how desirable a motor is... hmmm 1.4 petrol, it could be worse... :think:

Anyhow, before buying I had a look back in some old WhatCar mags & even 2007 (5 years & more ago) their target price for the 1.4 16v Fabia 2 was a little under £10k & when looking for 2nd hand ones I found various Fabia's around the 4-6 year old mark with asking prices in the region of £5k. The nicest one I saw (in the Manchester & southerly region) was the 1.4 TDI Fabia 2 from a dealer 1 owner, 4 years old with 54k miles on the clock for £5995

Well hey... £3 more & get a brand new one!!! ok an "old petrol one but still with a 3yr warranty, RAC..... I don't think you can go too far wrong.... here's hoping :notme:

There were other 1.2 TSI's 1yr old with 5-10k miles for sale at over £10k.... surely this can't be a better deal???

Oh well its done now so I guess I'm stuck with it now.... ;)

For now I'm happy & so is SWMBO so I look forward to lots of positive suggestions on how to make our Furby special :makeup: LOL.

Congrats on your purchase - I wish you and your other half all the best with it. Don't bother yourself as to how much it will be worth in three years time: all (normal) cars depreciate to nothing in time. I traded in a 4 year old £20k (I got it for £17k new on a deal) Volvo against my Fabia and got 6.5k for it -that's what what they were going for. The Volvo was a lovely car and a real head turner -but I'm much more happy in the Skoda.

I was having these wild thoughts about getting a aftermarket exhaust for it to make it sound mean. Hopefully will know today when I'm getting the delivery. How long did u have to wait for urs?

Not sure if I should tell you... but it was in stock already, I ordered in on Saturday & took delivery the following Friday (ie. 16th March). It could have been Wednesday or Thursday but I couldn't make it.

So from first test drive to taking delivery & order actually signed half way between.... hmmm 12 days not bad really, I think I was lucky on this occasion.

U mean the car was in stock at the dealer? That's good time for delivery (less than a week from placing ur order!) I ordered last Friday. Have been phoning the dealer every day (as he keeps telling me that he will know today....) he said the car is at the UK port. Hopefully I should get it by early next week. He said he should know by tomorrow. I hope so.

Got the delivery if my car yesterday evening. It had 10 miles on the odo. Have driven 60 miles since yesterday. Got the tank topped up today (panic buying) and it had used 8.5 litres of petrol, which I was a bit surprised by. I was expecting it to have used around 5 litres. Not too bothered about the fuel consumption as I will be running-in the car for around 1000 miles. Driving it between 2-3000 rpm at present. Will gradually take it upto 4000 rpm after a couple of hundred miles. Light controls and a comfortable drive. I bought the mp3 lead as well to connect my iPhone to the Aux out, but the sound output is very poor. Might have to buy a propriety Apple lead for that...... The brakes also need bedding in as they seem to be quite wooly at present (I'm sure the rear brake shoes also contribute to that feeling)..........One thing I was really surprised by...... The instrument cluster does not have an engine temperature gauge (I have never driven a car which did not have an engine temp gauge!!). It has an indicator light which goes off when the engine has warmed up. White colour looks great in the twilight and I got some envious looks from other motorists. There is a slim vertical line (looks like a heating element) in the middle of the front windscreen. My son pointed it out yesterday and I haven't really thought about it much. Anybody else noticed it on their Fabias?
