engine management

Featured Replies

hi there guys..my question is about the engine management light do your mk1 octavias have it? cos mine doesn't have when i turn on the ignition and i learned that you cannot scan for fault codes if that light doesn't turn on..thanks again for all the ideas

Have you tried getting someone with vcds to scan your car?

yes but they said there is no point in scanning if engine management light didnt turn on cos nothing will show up..

Some faults, including temporary, do not always trigger the engine management light so it's worth scanning with vcds.

They meant has the EML come on while you are driving and stayed on. That usually means there is a major fault (or a lot of minor fault codes).

When you start up an Octy the EML will come on for a few seconds while it does its checks but then should go off again (unless you have a major fault)

As someone said above you can still have fault codes stored without the EML coming on - if you disconnect your battery you'll find you have a fault code stored but there will be no constant EML, the trusty old 17705 code can also be there without it showing an EML too.

ok guys just to clear things up..what im saying here is i cant see the engine management light showing up when i turn on the ignition, cos all the warning light should show up first before turning off right?on my car the warning lights show up apart from the ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT,what might be causing this?thanks for all the advice..

As above, find someone local to you with VCDS.

Who has told you this about being unable to scan your car? A dealer or local garage?

Sure someone hasn't taken or covered the bulb up to hide a problem?

Same thing here , when i turn on ignition EPC and Engine managment light does not turn on ,, can these be disabled by VCDS ?

Mine doesn't either am gonna check the bulb in the week. Or se if someone has removed it
