Skoda Fun Start Up Noise

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a fun with an odd noise on start up. As best I can describe it's a whirring that increases in pitch but

then stops abruptly after only about 10 ish seconds. There doesn't appear to be any running problems and my first

thought was perhaps the alternator belt (suspect it's the original from 1999).

Any thoughts/ideas would be really welcome. Thanks, Rob.

After start up the alternator does experience heavy load and the noise could be the belt slipping because its worn the v`s out- usually a high pitch screaching tho. Could be the alternator bearings if its lower pitch.

The starter pinon sticking could also be sticking and making a similar noise.

Disconnect belt and run the motor to narrow it down- there`s also the power steering pump and tensioner running on it.

Hi Rolo, Many thanks for coming back to me. This has given me some new leads to follow. It sounds lower than belt slip so could well be bearings related. Cheers, Rob.
