Dead battery (problems)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My battery has been dead for about a week now and i've just bought a new one. Disconnected the battery terminals but srtuggled to release the bolt as the socket broke. Closed the bonnet and popped out to get a new set. Little did i realise when i returned that i could not gain access to my car interior or the bonnet! Now im kicking myself trying to figure out how im going to get to the battery without the alarm going off??? (even inside the car itself) a real dumb moment has put me in a rubbish situation!! please help!

Confused here - can't you open the door with the key?

ive tried to open the door with the key but nothing happens? the interior light does come on but thats it. then the alarm light continues to flash. if i do trigger the alarm and still cant get in then i have a bigger problem. thats the last thing i need, neighbours will kick off if you know what i mean.

will the alarm even trigger when disconneted from the battery? its still flashing and like i said, the interior light does come on briefly. im confused also?

interior light shouldnt come on if the battery is 100% disconnected. you should be able to manualy unlock the car with the key. it wont work the central locking but that door should mechanically unlock.

the terminals are completely off the battery. the only thing holding the battery in is the single bolt. thats why im so confused? the first thing i tried was to unlock it manually. absolutly nothing happened? your right the central locking doesnt work but the interior light did come on when i tried.

The alarm being Cat 1 standard will have an internal battery to cover people taking out the main battery - but I STILL don't understand why you don't just try opening the door. If the alarm goes off the key might still cut it off. I did say "might"...

Not sure what you're going to do otherwise since opening the bonnet will also set the alarm off (I think that's mandatory too with Cat 1 spec)

yup. will have bonnet switch. you need to open the doors with the key. no way around it. then get the battery on asap. even the dead one will be enough to work the central locking/alarm by the sounds of it.
