Voice Control

Featured Replies

Okay not having a yeti doesn't help me. But I've been reading the yeti manual whilst I wait for it my yeti to arrive.

One thing I'm confused about is Voice Control. How does it work?

I've currently got a mondeo which you press the voice button on the stalk, say dial number or say re-dial (etc), car confirms, say yes and it dials. Is this the same for the Yeti?

Do you have to program numbers into the car or does it work from the phone book on the mondeo you have to program in the numbers you want to use for voice dailing.

Thanks

If you have a Bolero radio then you can use voice recognition to call people from the imported phone book - no need to train it or set certain people's numbers up for this. You first press the button on the steering wheel and then just say "Call Peter Pan" and then she says "calling R2D2". You say "no, call Peter Pan" and she says "calling Mum mobile"....... Then you give up the will to live and never use said feature again. :giggle: But the general principle you describe of saying yes and no to her stupid suggestions is how it works yes. The only command I use on her when she had been mistakenly awoken is "Cancel". She always understands that.

If you have a Columbus it can also additionally do things with music playback I believe. But as stated above even if the Bolero could do this I won't have used the feature as "play ABBA" will surely lead to "BBC Cricket on Radio 4".

You can synch your mobile phone with the Yeti by bluetooth, so numbers are programmed into car automtically. Button on steering wheel then works pretty much in the way you describe for the stalk button on the Mondeo.

Cheers for the explaination.

I could never understand why on the mondeo, you would want to use voice control to change the temperature, radio station, volume. As it takes 5 times as long as moving your hand and pressing the button. :S

Pointless in my opinion.

I look forward to having a completely fruitless conversation with the Yeti, when trying to dial a number :D

Mine works exactly as Johann described except that I usually find that instead of dialling the person I wanted, or indeed the person she then suggests, that the robot woman responds to my cancel by dialling a random third party. Much better just to set up the favourites on the bolero and use that

Exactly! There is a dedicated PHONE button on the left of the radio. Press that and you have six preset numbers you can call (created from your imported phone book or newly created by yourself). Press on a name and it calls the person. Far easier than trying to "speak" to Insomnia.

As usual, ask and the answer is provided.

Learnt something new for when the yeti arrives.

To call somebody you ned to say the surname first the the first name, so if I were to call Steve Jobs (rip) I would say Jobs Steve.

That might help.

You can voice activate the Columbus using the left scroll wheel button as mentioned above and even put in a destination should you so wish. But you can't input 7 digit postcodes by speaking to it.
