Winter Wheels / tyres

Featured Replies

Hi All

I copied this text I had submitted in another post for your info.

If you are looking for winter wheels at the moment, I noticed some VW T5 wheels on ebay - one of them is a very good deal. Just make sure the sizes will fit your car but I think they are the same as I got for mine.

I got a set at the beginning of the year for £120 + £10 delivery. They were 6 x 16 (ET50 I think) and they were from a VW Transporter T5. They were basically new (delivery mileage as someone had alloys fitted to a new T5).

They fit the VRS FL no problem - have 205x55x16 Continental WinterContact tyres fitted - 32psi in the rear and 38psi in the front - drives very well.

Shop about for wheels as normally when someone gets a new vehicle and the dealer puts alloys on it, the steels just go in the skip - £180 is a bit on the side of ripoff.

I also got a full set of plain black VW plastic centre caps (the half size ones that clip onto the wheel studs for around £5 a couple of weeks ago off ebay. They keep the salt etc out of the bearings and driveshaft nuts in the centre of the hubs - well worth a fiver.

For tyres, check your local Kwikfit - I got 2 full sets of the Conti's - one set for the VRS put on the loose wheels for £61 each and a set for my Astravan for £71 each as they had to take the wheels and old tyres off etc. At the time, the same tyres were around £130 each off the web so shop around.
