Mk1 Octy VRS Cambelt Locking Kit

Featured Replies

Do you need a locking kit to lock crank/camshaft when changing the cambelt??

I've been told all you need is a short piece of m5 threaded bar and m5 nut and washer???

Any tips for doing the cambelt, i'm planning on tackling it over the xmas break...

Thanks in advance

Rob

This months Car Mechanic ? magazine has an article on changing a Audi TT 1.8 Cambelt. So much the same and looks helpful for when I do mine.

I find drill bits always come in useful for belt changes to use as locking tools,

I carn't remember locking anything when i did cambelt on my vrs, it was working round engine mount that was more of a pain

No crank or camshaft locking tools are used when changing the timing belt on a 1.8t.

The 5mm threaded rod needs to be approx 60mm long and is used to compress the belt tensioner.

I would advise the water pump, tensioner and engine mounting bolts are changed at the same time.

Also, ensure that the O/S engine mounting brkt is adjusted correctly prior to tightening the "mounting to engine brkt bolts".

Bill.
