Emissions light

Featured Replies

Hi,

I had used an old thread and posted in there but nobody replied.

My exhaust control system light came on on Saturday after leaving the car overnight at work. It seems to be running fine, with no noticeable loss of power, smells, noises etc.

I plugged in my STS and there were no faults found. The light went off on Sunday morning, but then came back on on Sunday night.

Any help would be great!

Thanks

Exhaust control light? Or engine management light?

exhaust control matey according to the manual

Hummmm, what does it look like? As far as I know the only sensor to do with the exhaust is the EGR valve, but that would show the EML light so rules that out. I didnt think there was any other sensors on the exhaust tbh.

A few weeks since I posted this and the light is still on.

It is the engine management light.

There doesn't seem to be any loss of power, noise or noticeable decrease in MPG.

Skoda want £60 just to read the fault code, I don't want to think about how much they'll charge to fix anything that's wrong.

Any ideas of who I can take it to?

I'm based in Cheshire if anyone is nearby?

No - that's the "Control system for exhaust" light. See manual extract:

I had that over Xmas after very gentle running. Just before deciding to give it a blast to clean it out, it went out by itself during a trip to the supermarket. I still went for a high revs blast and have been doing so occasionally since. Seems fine now. Mine had no "limp mode" type symptoms either. Detailed reports HERE

haha I told the guy at Skoda that it was the control system for exhaust light and he told me that I was wrong and that it was the EML.

I referenced the manual and he told me that the manual was incorrect haha!

Pretty worrying stuff.

I took the car to a local lad off here and he got it up on the VAGCOM, the fault was glow plug fault on cylinder 2.

He's cleared the code and it hasn't returned, but I'm going to get a new set of plugs and fit them tomorrow/next week.

Cheers guys

Interesting - perhaps I should get mine looked at too then - any experts on here care to comment - I haven't a clue really... :(

I'm going to head up to Whiston Motor Factors this morning and see if they've got some plugs.

For the sake of about £40 it's worth doing anyway.

Cheers for the help matey!

HSL in rainhill is a good motor factor if you have no look which Whiston.

Got the new plugs and a Haynes (always useful) for £55 so happy with that. fitted the new plugs in 5/10 mins and the old ones looked shot. totally black etc.

Hopefully that should be sorted now, all I can do is keep an eye on it.

cheers

Let us know please if the light does happen to come on again.
