Auxiliary socket

Featured Replies

I've just got a 2008 Octavia L&K, which so far I am very pleased with, apart from the road noise, which is horrendous. It's got cheap tyres on the front, which may be partly responsible, but I won't know unti8l I change them ,and I cant afford to do that until it's necessary. Perhaps it is just a feature of the car, but it certainly knocks the 'luxuty' edge of it, and sometimes it's embarrassingly loud when you are showing someone your super new car! Anyway, the real reason for this post is the mystery 'auxiliary' socket in the armrest storage. I can't find anything about it in any of the owners manuals, and am too scared to plug anything into it! Is it an input (MP£ player etc..), or an output (12v power). If anyone can enlighten me I would be very greatful.

Also, the owners manuals give information about all sorts of options, but I can't find anything that tells me which options I have. I keep finding out about them bit by bit, usually by accident, but it would be nice to know what I have or have not. Any ideas/suggestions?

Hi,

The socket in the armrest is an audio input to the radio from an MP3 player, or whatever you want to play through it. The radio should have an option to select Aux input somewhere in the menu.

I can't say I've noticed tyre noise with mine and I think you're correct that its the cheap tyres that are causing it

Its for auxiliary sound input and played through the radio/CD player, etc. You can, for example, plug in an ipod and play it through the aforementioned radio/CD player. I think the operating instructions are in the manual.

Tyre noise is 'orid' in my 10 plate vRS AND it's still on OEM tyres.

Check the wear on the rear tyres - are they wearing on the inside edge?

If so, get a full chassis geometry check done, rear wheel alignment issues cause a lot of road noise and tyre wear issues, especially with wider wheels.

Cheap tyres don't help either.

Check the pressures are correct as well - they are on the inside of the fuel flap.

I got one of those Pure Highway digital radios for Christmas and play that through the AUX socket - works a treat :)
