Capless fuel filler anyone?

Featured Replies

Took delivery of my MY2012 Scout last week. Is it just my Norwegian spec Scout or do all MY2012 Octavias have a capless fuel filler as standard? Anyone know if this is replaceable with a standard fuel cap? The new setup means there is constant backflow to the fuel nozzle, which makes refuelling long and tedious.

first I have heard of it on a Skoda but at work we have the new Mondeo diesels and they are like this however no problems with backflow and fill up easily but it says to insert nozzle and push it down towards ground otherwise it blocks it.

Any pictures? I never knew that this was being implemented on the Octavia...

Does it double up as an anti-misfuelling device? Could it be retro-fitted to older octavia/octavia derivatives?

Ummm ... how do I upload a pic? :S

Strange, I picked up my Scout at the start of December and it came with the standard filler cap. Mine is a MY12 as it lacks the passenger handle (much to the missus's disappointment emoticon-0136-giggle.gif).

You need to use a hosting site, such as Photobucket.

Once you sign up you can upload images securely which then generates a link. Copy this link into the box above the thread 'insert image' and it should appear!

Thanks for the tip, silver1011!

OK, here's what the capless filler looks like on my Scout: http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n583/zainbilgrami/fuelfiller.jpg

I rummaged around in a plastic bag the dealer gave me just before I drove off in the new car. Found a conventional filler cap. I'll get in touch with dealer when they are back from their hols and ask if they can swap it out for me.

I presume that's the purpose - can't think of any other reason (see photo in another post).

No way, have they changed the silver grab handle above the glovebox!?

That's an aftermarket misfuelling prevention cap. It just screws on in place of the standard cap, and there may be a black plastic pipe inserted at the top of the filer neck. Take a look here

No worries! If you use the 'direct link' you can have it so the pictures actually appear in your thread too:

Thanks! I'll get on with replacing it with the original filler cap asap. No risk of me misfuelling - I have driven almost exclusively diesels for the past several years.

They've replaced it with the standard trim with 'Scout' silkscreened on the the left. Doesn't look as good as the old grab handle. I'll get some pics up when I get a chance.

It's disappointing that it's just the old Solo Diesel gizzmo. I was hoping for something manufactured by VAG or approved by Skoda.

All the aftermarket misfuelling gadgets get mixed reviews, the most common complaints being that they make filling very slow, or that bits and pieces break off from them and wind up in the tank.

That's rubbish

Bring back the off roading grab handle Skoda
