Do people experience problems with the rear bumper and boot getting stained black/grey. The only thing that will remove it is polish.

It looks really bad on yellow :(

Recently been a thread on this, specific to yellow cars aswel. Not sure what the conclusion was though.

mines yellow,get black specs that are really ground in. . .remove it with clay or polish and wax it up to try stop it sticking :-)

Yeah the black specs on mine are really hard, I get mine off with a plastic scrapper, it sound harsh but they come clean off.

I have got about 5 coats of collenite (sp) on the rear but it still stains it :(

I used to get this with my old, very smoky, map. Only thing I found that would shift it is bug and tar remover. Dread to think what a mess it might have made of the lacquer, but I think it's pretty safe and I'm not into detailing so I just try not to think about it :)

A good base coat of wax and regular washes should prevent this.

How often are you guys washing your cars?

Mine does produce a bit of soot, but it's not a problem because:

1. The car has a good layer of polish on, so it doesn't seem to bond to the paint. You can just wipe it off later.

2. My exhaust sticks out a small distance from the bumper, so most of it is fired out of the back rather than sucked up the back of the car.

How sooty are we talking? I haven't cleaned my car in about 4months and its not that bad at all imo.

mine sticks out slightly but alot still gets sucked into the vortex :-(

if.i left mine 4 months it wouldn't be yellow anymore. :-|

No issues with soot at all :S

Only once a week, and it's never "detailed". I've given up keeping my cars looking anything other than "good enough", as soon as I hit the motorway for my first journey to/from work it gets stonechipped by some arse cutting across the chevrons, then covered in truck soot, blue smoke from the inevitable badly maintained Polish workman's turbo diesel wagon that's not been serviced for 3000 years, then the back gets dirty when I overtake anyone, in winter there's the rain and road muck, in summer it gets covered in an inexplicable layer of dust...

Gets 2-bucket washed with whatever decent brand wash'n'wax I have to hand once a week and that's about it. It might get detailed next year as a mate of mine has started his own little business, but it very much depends on giving me a cutting-my-own-throat rate in exchange for me letting him take some snaps to promote himself. Otherwise it's fairly pointless, I just can't motivate myself to dedicate the time to spend 6 hours a week washing/waxing/etc when it doesn't actually keep it any cleaner. If there was a magic wax which actively repelled dirt then maybe, but I'm still going to have to wash it every week so why bother.... :)

That's half your problem.

If you stay on top of it (paint care) it makes things a whole lot easier.

I hate washing a car that hasn't seen wax or polish, it's a pain in the arse. Doesn't dry properly, everything sticks to it, and never shines true.

Dedicate time to clay, polish and wax it quarterly and I guarantee you'll see results in cleanliness, reduced time taken to clean, and reduction is dirt sticking to your paint!

If you haven't got time to clean it every week. Give it a spray with a power washer and foam lance to prevent anything sticking until next time.

I really need to sort my paintwork out tbh. I`v not done mine since i`v owned the car, never really been interested, but looking at a mates car fully clean its amazing. Exactly as Tim says, stays cleaners for a lot longer, and when it does come to washing it the dirt falls off, its like the car has a invisible shield of protection, especially the wheels. :thumbup: Worth the initial effort IMO.

Once its washed it dont look like soot any more, just a dull, grey stained paint work.. it even sticks to the lip of the rear spoiler.

AG SRP gets it off ok, but its just an arse cos i have to polish the rear every time I wash it.

Get a proper clay polish and wax in, with as many wax coats as you can tolerate. You shouldn't have to polish every time you wash then.

+1 Although as mentioned already a good claying session followed up with colly 476 seems to help :yes:
