4x4 Magazine

Featured Replies

I'm probably posting about something that someone else has spotted long ago - I'm always a bit slow. Walked past the magazine rack in the supermarket today and saw a Yeti, amongst a load of other vehicles, on the cover of 4x4 Magazine. This isn't a magazine I normally buy, but picked it up for a browse to see what it had to say about the Yeti. Was pleasantly surprised to see that they had judged the Yeti the best 4x4 in their 'mid range' class for 4x4 of the year 2012 - beating the Freelander 2, Jeep Compass, Nissan X-Trail, Suzuki Grand Vitara and Kia Sorento inter alia.

What strikes me about this is that I've never thought about the Yeti simply as a 4x4, never thought about it being the 'best' in that role. I've always valued the car as an all rounder; not the best 4x4, not the best hot hatch, not the best estate, not the best people carrier, not the best city car, not the best long range tourer ... but for my money the best car offering a combination of features of all of the above.

So I guess I'm really impressed that what is clearly a specialist magazine (and somewhat to their surprise it seems) rates the Yeti so highly.

Good result - I too don't perceive the Yeti as a serious 4x4 contender, in the same way as perhaps a Freelander 2, what with LR 4x4 knowledge etc.

I'll vouch from personal experience that the Yeti whilst being good off road on mud, is not so good with water emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

dont diss the YETI capabilities as a 4*4.

It has featured frequently in th last 2 years as a serious contender in the 4*4 stakes. This has been pointed out before in these threads.

Just because most of us want decent tarmac travel with the occasionally snow-bound expertise, and every so often deep mud-plugging fun should not exclude its presence in the elite off-road echelons.

Have to agree there George. I drive round on my farm in places I have never been before. No problems so far.

Expect me to comment otherwise as soon as something goes wrong!

Mmm.........mud
