Skoda Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi All,

First post in earnest! I am researching second hand cars with a view to getting a 1.9/2.0 diesel Octavia Estate in spring - looking at a couple of years old ideally. However, I am somewhat confused! What does 'PD' mean relative to the model, also what is 'CR'in the same vein? Does anyone know when the Euro V engines came in?

Cheers

John

PD = the older Pumpe Duse engines. Instant power but runs out of puff quite quickly

CR = the latest Common Rail engines. Much more linear power delivery, similar to a petrol.

Explanation of the difference here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_rail.

I beleive Skoda changed from PD to CR to meet ever tighter emission regulations.

Thanks for the replies guys - am now thinking of a 1.4 TSi as perceived wisdom seems to be go for a petrol unless you're doing lots of miles - and I will only be doing circa 10-12k miles per year with it.

Cheers

John
