buying a columbus

Featured Replies

Hello

I have just become an owner of 2009 VRS octivia II pre face lift and looking to replace the stream MP3 with a Columbus. I have read various threads about where to get one from and questions regarding the origional (questionable?) source of these units.

Just looking for suggestions, especially if you have bought one and where from:-

I notice there are a number for sale currently on ebay - some of the suppliers having a fair few sales and 100% (or very close) feedback.

Here are a couple of traders I was look at ebay item 220919433091 or item 250946305078

also from Lithuania item 130619870499

There is also http://www.oemretrofits.co.uk/satnav-skoda.shtm but there are only mobile contact numbers and no address for this company

thoughts requested, espceially if you have actually bought one from any supplier, if you wish not to publish in public then please PM me, thanks

James

A number of members have used oemretrofits without problems. They are based in Bradford and will supply and fit as well as code your car correctly for navigation.

Can I presume they're not gonna be new for that price??

Don't go down the 'is it new?' route otherwise you'll get people on here telling you that every Columbus is stolen (unless bought direct from a Skoda dealer).

Leaving ethics and personal morals aside, I bought one from Navi & BMW parts on eBay (see this listing) and had good service from him.

Unit arrived fully functioning (not the SW version specified) but with Eastern Europe maps installed. Seller sent me Western Europe maps on CD and all has been good since. I've upgraded the SW, so no issues about bricking it and have disabled the VIM (video in motion) as it is illegal in this country.

I tried OEM Retrofits and while initially very forthcoming and quick with responses, when pushed on sourcing a unit to meet my specific requirements, they went strangely quiet! So I ended up doing it myself and have had the pleasure of a Columbus unit in my Octavia since.

It will need coding in with VCDS (PM sent about this).

Good luck.

Have a look at these websites / forums:

RNS 510

My GTI

VW Navi

All of which I have used but none have the member support and input that this forum has. (My GTI does have quite a bit of useful info on there though).

LOL - That's the ticket.

DOn't worry about items being stolen when it is you that benefits.

Different story if your pride and joy was smashed into to have the item stolen though?

I had my Colombus supplied & fitted by OEMretrofits, and had no problems.

They supply & fit these for many dealerships so I am sure they only use genuine suppliers.

They are based in Bradford as I drove there to have mine fitted, but they do have a mobile fitting service.

This is coming from the guy who is advising people NOT to tell there insurance company of any accidents unless you intend to claim, despite it saying in the small print you are to report all incidents regardless of blame :wonder:

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/223749-word-of-warning-only-contact-your-insurance-if-you-are-sure-you-will-claim/

If your going to be holier than thou then you need to be whiter than white ;)
